Parkland Donates Ultrasound Machines to Zambia Hospital
Parkland Health Center has donated two ultrasound machines to the soon-to-be opened Bethlehem Baptist Mission Hospital in Ndola, Zambia. This 65-bed hospital, a project by Bethlehem Christian Academy, aims to serve over 620,000 residents with comprehensive medical services, including maternity care and surgery.
As part of Parkland's imaging service expansion, the ultrasound equipment was recently upgraded. These still fully functional machines are now getting a second life to continue to help patients.
Parkland President Annette Schnabel said of the donations, “We are honored to be able to share the equipment that we have outgrown with those who would not otherwise have access to this level of health care. We often do not realize how fortunate we are to have access to the most advanced technology as health care providers and as health care recipients.”
A special thank you to Melanie Warren, a Parkland Health Center sonographer and member of the Bethlehem Christian Academy, whose dedication ensured these machines found a new home where they’ll make a significant impact. Melanie, who worked with these machines for over a decade, plans to travel to Zambia to train the local staff.
