Friends and colleagues recently gathered at Parkland Health Center in Farmington to honor a true gentleman. Stanley E. Thawley, MD, is retiring following a long, distinguished career as Associate Professor Adult Division, Dept. of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine.
From many different perspectives, Dr. Thawley is extraordinary. His distinguished medical career spans 42 years. He has had numerous hospital and academic appointments and served on multiple committees, councils and task forces. He has made countless scientific presentations over the years and has taught multiple university courses. He has participated in cooperative research studies and published many peer reviewed papers, published a second volume book on Head and Neck tumors, as well as contributing to invited publications. He has made countless presentations to community groups. He served active duty in the United States Air Force. He raised a family, is active in his church and helps the boy scouts. He has received many awards. And the list goes on.
But what the community surrounding Parkland Health Center remembers most is a tall, distinguished, kind, gentleman doctor who loves kids and has driven south from St. Louis to serve this rural community for so long that he has seen four generations of patients. Those who thought it would never end are graciously saying goodbye and wishing the legendary doctor health and happiness in his well-deserved retirement.
Thank you, Dr. Thawley for caring for our community for all of these years. You will be missed.
