Parkland Health Center is ranked in America's Best 16 Community Hospitals by Becker's Hospital Review. Findings were published in the January 29, 2010, issue. The only hospital in the State of Missouri to be honored, Parkland Health Center is one of the smaller hospitals to receive this honor. Becker's Hospital Review focuses on cutting-edge business and legal issues for hospital leadership, and it is distributed to more than 10,000, primarily those involved in acute care hospital leadership.
Becker's Hospital Review defines community hospitals as facilities with no or limited teaching programs and 325 or fewer beds. Hospitals are rated using indicators including patient safety, outcomes and satisfaction and rankings on industry lists, including rankings by Thomson Reuters, US News & World Report and HealthGrades.
Parkland Health Center also was named to Thomson Reuters' list of 100 Top Hospitals for two consecutive years (2007 and 2008). Thomson Reuters compares hospitals in five size categories, which places Parkland Health Center as one of the top 20 small community hospitals in the nation.
Parkland Health Center's comprehensive services in maternity, pediatrics, laboratory, radiology, cardiac rehabilitation, outpatient and inpatient surgery, physical therapy, and the treatment of diabetes and renal dialysis were factors in the ranking that placed Parkland Health Center in the top 16 hospitals in the nation this year. Parkland Health Center has also been cited for having an outstanding patient experience, and highly rated for its heart attack care.
"It's always great to be recognized. This says a lot about all the members of the Parkland family, and also about the great level of support and guidance we get from BJC," says Thomas Karl, president, Parkland Health Center.
