- The new Emergency Department opened at the Farmington facility in August 2008, doubling its size; it is the first phase of a $30 million plan for the Hospital campus over the next several years
- The new ED is twice the square footage and double the capacity of the previous one
- The ED has two major trauma rooms and 14 additional treatment rooms; three rooms are for patients awaiting admission or transfer
- A state-of-the-art electronic tracking board keeps staff updated
- The new facility is designed for expediency with direct access from triage to the Emergency Department with a tube system for lab work
- Parkland's combined Emergency Departments treat 30,000 patients a year
- Both facilities are staffed 24/7 with trauma-trained physicians, nurses and technicians
- Certified sexual assault nurse examiners are available at both EDs and emergency nurses are also trained in pediatric advanced life support and advanced cardiac life support
