Community Members Celebrate Opening of “Beautiful Facility”

A crowd of chamber members, hospital board members, medical professionals, volunteers, news media, patients and partners from BJC HealthCare gathered to celebrate and tour Parkland Cancer Center’s new location June 27. The festivities included a traditional Farmington Regional Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting, an open house and refreshments served by cancer center volunteers. Parkland staff members showed guests around the newly renovated, state-of-the-art, 6,500 square-foot treatment facility, which is located on the fourth floor of the medical office building on Parkland’s Farmington campus. The cancer center is moving from its current location at Parkland Health Center-Bonne Terre to its new Farmington location in late July.

Since 1995, Parkland Cancer Center has partnered with Missouri Baptist Medical Center to provide world-class care close to home. The cancer center has five board-certified oncologists and a staff of oncology and infusion-certified nurses who offer the same medical oncology, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and clinical trials that are offered at Missouri Baptist.

“This beautiful facility will allow us to more closely collaborate with our colleagues in this community while continuing our partnership with Missouri Baptist Cancer Center and its National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program to offer comprehensive cancer services and clinical trial participation at Parkland Health Center,” said Paul T. Mehan, MD, oncologist at the cancer center. Dr. Mehan and the oncology and infusion nurses were present for the ribbon cutting and open house.

Parkland’s infusion center is also relocating. By late July, cancer treatment, infusion therapy and physician clinics will be housed together in the new, spacious suite, making treatment and physician visits more convenient for patients.

Parkland Health Center will continue to operate its 24/7 fully staffed emergency department, inpatient services and sleep disorder center at the Bonne Terre location. Options to fill the space vacated by the cancer center move are being explored and when plans are finalized, announcements will be made.
